Watch Catherine Bailey in extraordinary new BBC drama ‘Prisoner 951’

3 April 2016.

Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe tenderly breastfeeds her 22-month-old daughter, Gabriella, a priceless moment between mother and daughter. At Tehran Airport, joy turns to shock and confusion when guards separate Nazanin from Gabriella, claiming a passport issue. Back in London, her husband Richard learns she’s missed her flight. Assured it’s a minor delay, he resumes his day, unaware of the coming tragedy.

In Iran, Nazanin, terrified, is abducted and secretly flown away from Tehran to a prison a thousand miles away. She is accused of espionage, thrown into solitary confinement, and interrogated day and night. She clings to her innocence, longing for her daughter and her husband. Meanwhile, Richard battles confusion, then panic, then fear. As days stretch into weeks, the silence confirms his very worst fears: this is no mistake. His wife has been abducted.

Defying government advice to stay quiet, Richard goes public and demands answers, needing to shine a light on her plight. Richard promises her one thing: he will bring her home.

L&C’s excellent Catherine Bailey stars opposite Joseph Fiennes and Narges Rashidi as Rebecca Ratcliffe in ‘Prisoner 951’ on BBC1 and BBC iPlayer from Sunday 23rd November.
